From October 31 to November 2, 2025, the Global Greenchem Hackathon 2025 was held offline in Kyiv, an event aimed at finding innovative solutions in the field of green chemistry.
The program was implemented within the framework of the GreenChem global initiative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The international executor is Yale University (USA), the national partner is the Center for Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production.
11 teams of researchers, scientists and students from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy and Khmelnytskyi united to find solutions to real challenges from Dow companies and LLC "VKF MBA" (ELF DECOR).
During the Hackathon, participants not only generated ideas, but also improved their skills - they listened to a lecture on green chemistry, attended a workshop on the theory of solving inventive problems from Green Duck, communicated with mentors and business representatives. There were many discussions, formulas, experiments and even more inspiration.
The team of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Chemistry (Kira Chudesa, Elizaveta Kochura, Daryna Myronenko) under the scientific leadership of Ph.D., Assoc. Prof. Ponomareva L.M. presented their project "VerdeChem" - an innovative solution to the case of using straw in technological processes for the production of biofoam.
Participation in the international Global Greenchem Hackathon is a great opportunity to hear the requests of modern chemical enterprises.
We thank the organizers for motivating young people to conduct research in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering and implement the principles of green chemistry and sustainable development in Ukraine.
