In February 2026, L.M. Ponomarova and R.M. Pshenychnyi participated in the training program “Training of Experts in Soil Assessment and Restoration of Territories Damaged as a Result of Hostilities,” held from February 2 to 23, 2026, in a blended format (online and in person at Sumy National Agrarian University).
The program was organized by Sumy National Agrarian University in cooperation with the Royal Agricultural University (United Kingdom), with the involvement of international partners, and was implemented the project “Ukraine War-Polluted Soil: Recovery and Remediation,” funded by the UK government.
The training covered modern approaches to assessing soils damaged by military activities, methods of sampling and analysis, the use of geoinformation technologies and remote sensing, as well as approaches to land reclamation and territorial restoration. The program combined дистанційні lectures delivered by international experts with an in-person practical module, during which participants carried out field and laboratory work, mastered geospatial analysis methods, satellite data processing, and assessment of the environmental impacts of hostilities.
Participation in the program made it possible to expand professional competencies in the comprehensive assessment of war-damaged ecosystems, research planning, and the use of modern environmental monitoring tools, which is particularly relevant for regions of Ukraine affected by military actions.
The knowledge and practical skills acquired are planned to be applied in scientific and educational activities, including student training, research work, and the implementation of projects aimed at environmental restoration.
The participation of university lecturers in such international educational programs contributes to the integration of modern approaches into teaching and research within the department and strengthens international academic cooperation.
